CLASSES BY JMLORING

2012 – JANUARY 5 TO FEBRUARY 2, 2012

6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

SANDWICH COMMUNITY SCHOOL – http://www.scslearn.org/

So!  You Want to Write a Book!

Have you secretly wanted to write a book, put your life story, your family’s history, that idea for the next great American novel, or those poems hidden in the back of your closet on paper but thought, I’m not a writer! or asked yourself who would read what you write or how would I ever get it published?

Participant at SO! begin this adventure and learn ways to write, action plans to continue, concrete information to complete their book and get it published. If you attend a SO! course, you could have a chapter outline or you whole story or book complete. You could work on titles, beginnings and endings, understand what the genera of your story is and set a plan to have the first draft or the last draft of your story/book on paper. Immediately.

Whether you are an aspiring writer or are already putting your words down on the page, SO! courses will help you to expand or narrow the focus of your story and provide ways to help you to flesh out character and story. You will learn the use of point of view and story narrative and character arc and you will set goals for beginning or completing your manuscript.

Join a fast-paced, interactive group and define your potential and interest in being an author, your ideas and dreams for publishing and consider how to fit writing a book/story/script/play/poem into your life. Through specific techniques, writing prompts, research and brainstorming, your story idea will blossom, you will set realistic, personal weekly/monthly writing goals, and understand how to structure your time to complete your manuscript. In class, we discuss storytelling, plots, character, point of view, outlines, treatments, tag lines, agents, editors, publishers and publishing, fiction vs. nonfiction, query letters, book proposals and publishing options and much, much more. Publishing courses will provide an overview of both traditional and self-publishing.
With the expanding options to self-publish, anyone who really wants to write their book and have it published can. Why shouldn’t that be you?

COMMING SOON – SO! YOU WANT TO PUBLISH YOUR BOOK!
Self-publishing is a unique and possible opportunity for any writer who wants to see their work published. It is a gate to a new world, the world of being an AUTHOR. Experience holding your own book in your hand!  Have others read and buy your work! Tell your story. Fantastic! And it’s affordable.

During this workshop, we will discuss and research traditional publishing vs. vanity presses vs. supported self-publishing and specific print on demand opportunities and companies both on the internet and locally.

We will discuss and compare newly printed POD books by Cape authors including their text, formatting, editing and covers. We will review publishing contracts, registration, copyright, cost, royalties, ISBNs, book front and back matter and discuss agents, editors, publishers and publishing. Time will be spent on marketing your work after publication and how to get your book into books stores and to on-line sellers.

Class time will include a chance for each participant to discuss where they are with their manuscript and the publishing goals each writer has set for themselves.

This course will provide an overview of self-publishing information for beginning writers as well as a jumping off point for writers ready to take the next step.
