A bit about me: Long before I began writing screenplays and stage plays, I wrote and published poetry and short stories. With my friends Gary Rafferty, Preston Hood, Pauline Hebert and Dorinda Foley Wegener, I compiled, edited and published both Summer Home Review Volume I & II. These volumes of poetry, prose, plays and translations were gathered from the work of students at the summer writer’s workshop at the Joiner Center for the Study of War and Social Consequence at UMass Boston. The books can be purchased through AuthorHouse. http://www.authorhouse.com/

I teach writing and publishing courses and I work with and mentor writers. It is especially my pleasure to work with a writer who has not begun the process of putting words on the page.

I also work with writers whose books are published by traditional or main-stream presses and I have edited and/or supported more than a dozen writers who self-published their books. I mentor writers of fiction, nonfiction, memoir, self-help and children’s books as well as scripts and poetry.

I have been fortunate to receive professional development grants from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, Bourne Cultural Council, and the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod and a Ragdale Foundation Artist Residency in Forest Lake, IL in 2005. In February 2010, I spent two amazing weeks at the Heinrich Boll Cottage, Achill Island, Ireland. The two part story of this adventure can be found on CapeWomenOnline magazine at www.CapeWomenOnline.com
Formerly I coordinated the Eventide Arts Full-length Play Competition and $1000 Kaplan Prize (http://www.eventidearts.org/kaplan.html).

I facilitated the Cape Cod Screenwriters Group. I was president of the Cape Cod Chapter of the National League of American Pen Women and for over five years, I judged the Cape Cod Times PrimeTime Poetry Contest.

I am the retired executive director of the Cape Cod Writers’ Center (www.capecodwriterscenter.org). I live in Albuquerque and have been married for forty years to Gary Loring, a Viet Nam veteran. My children are spead across the country in New Mexico, Georgia, Oklahoma, Maine and Massachusetts. I have eight grandchildren who I love dearly and four California aunt-children who I wish I lived closer to. I thank their parents for the photos they send me which keep me current with their childhoods.

Awaiting My Muse: Part Two of an Artist Residency in Ireland
2010 Residency, Heinrich Theodor Boll Cottage, Achill Island, County Mayo, west coast of Ireland.

“After my acceptance letter arrived from John McHugh, Boll Cottage Trustee, I called Geraldine Mills who I’d met in 2003 at a Provincetown Play Festival where her play was performed. I’m a travel coward, so I proposed to her that I would provide her a place to meet her muse if she would consent to drive me in Ireland.” Read full article here….
